How Does Hormone Pellet Therapy Work?
If you’ve been struggling with frustrating symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, sleep disturbances, and more, imbalanced hormones may be to blame. The good news is there is help available! The first step in getting your hormones balanced and optimized is finding a Certified Biote Provider.
At your first visit, your provider will evaluate your symptoms and set you up with lab work to check your hormone levels. Then you’re ready to start your journey of hormone optimization through pellet therapy. And while you may be somewhat familiar with pellet therapy, you may be wondering just how it actually works. So let’s take a look at the path of pellet therapy in 5 steps.
STEP 1: Pellet Insertion
During a quick in-office appointment, your provider numbs the insertion site, so you won’t feel a thing! They make a tiny incision in the upper buttocks area, right under your lower back, and then insert your bioidentical hormone pellets. Your pellet dosage is prescribed precisely for you based on your blood work results and your individual symptoms. The pellets themselves are about the size of a grain of rice. Fast and easy.
Your provider will cover the site with a bandage and send you home with important after-care instructions, like how long you need to keep the bandage on, and when you can submerge the area in water (like a bath or a pool).
STEP 2: Hormones Released
The pellets get to work right away! They begin to dissolve slowly on their own, releasing the hormones you need into your bloodstream. And just like that, your hormone levels start to rise! The best part is you don’t have to worry about remembering to apply a messy cream, put on a patch, or take a pill. The pellets stay in their place doing their job for several months at a time.
Note: A big downside of other hormone replacement methods? They deliver inconsistent doses of hormones and can put your hormone levels on a rollercoaster. That means you may not see the relief from your symptoms you might have hoped.
STEP 3: Vital Cells Supported
Vital cells get the hormones they need. You may not know that many areas of our bodies contain vital cells that need proper levels of hormones to function properly. This includes our brains, bones, cardiovascular system, reproductive organs, and more! When your body produces new cells of these types, the cells look for the appropriate hormone they need in your bloodstream. If they can’t get what they need, the cells won’t perform at their best. And that leads to symptoms of hormone imbalance like brain fog, low mood, bone density loss, and so much more.
But now that the pellets are optimizing your hormone levels, there are enough available hormones in your blood for these cells to use. That means you’ll likely start to feel happier and healthier.
STEP 4: Pellets Continues to Dissolve
Your pellets continue to naturally dissolve slowly and steadily all on their own over the next several months. This provides your body with a consistent level of hormones, keeping them stable, and helping keep symptoms of hormone imbalance at bay.
Together with your provider, you will determine the optimal time to get subsequent rounds of pelleting to maintain this same steady level of hormones in the future.
Did you know? The bioidentical hormone pellets used in the Biote Method of hormone optimization are made from soy or the yam plant and have the exact same molecular structure as hormones that normally occur in our bodies!
STEP 5: Ready for Round 2!
Pellets last up to three to six months depending on things like gender, weight, and the amount of hormones present at the time of insertion. The pellets dissolve completely on their own after a while, leaving nothing behind, and you’re ready for your next round of pellet therapy!
Pellets are generally reinserted between two to four times per year to help keep hormones optimized and balanced. Many people experience relief from their symptoms in as little as four weeks—or even sooner!—but full optimization may take up to six months or more.
Your bioidentical hormone replacement journey is customized to your specific needs. You will stay closely in touch with your provider all along the way to help you get the results you’re looking for.
