Rich Barrera is the Founder, CEO, and Portfolio Manager of Roystone Capital Management and Co-Founder and Partner of Brighton Health Partners, both New York-based investment firms. Roystone, founded in 2013, invested in growth, corporate event, and value-oriented situations across the capital structure, managing over $3.0 billion at its peak. In 2019, Roystone returned third-party capital to focus on more concentrated, long-term investments. Brighton Health Partners, founded in 2021, focuses on healthcare services businesses through a hands-on “Partner Equity” approach with mission-driven entrepreneurs.
Rich has extensive experience negotiating complex transactions, public markets investing, and capital markets execution, along with significant board and governance experience. From 2019 to 2020, he served on the board of PG&E, chairing the Finance Committee during its $25 billion wildfire liability settlement and $20+ billion capital raise to exit bankruptcy.
He previously held senior investment roles at Redwood Capital, Glenview Capital, and JP Morgan. Mr. Barrera earned a BSE from the Wharton School and an MBA from Harvard Business School, and serves on the boards of several private companies and Success Academies, New York City’s largest charter school network.
